DISCLAIMER: We all know I don't know Naruto. But we all ALSO know that it'd be pretty bad-zapdos if I did. j/k
~~~~~~~
Sakura awoke that morning before the cock crowed, as usual. She tended to get up early, unlike a certain blonde in her team. As Sakura began to stretch she heard a knock at the bedroom door and suddenly took a look around her surroundings. There was Naruto sawing logs in the corner of the room with his limbs splayed every which way, and Sai's bedding and pajamas folded nicely in the opposite corner of the room.
If there was anyone who got up before Sakura, it had to be Sai and Yamato. She even had the "pleasure" of helping Shizune wake Tsunade every now and again.
The pink-haired kunoichi climbed out of her bedding and folded it up nicely, trying to imitate the perfection of Sai's work; but without success. After grunting and lightly punching the folded bedding she made her way to the door and opened it. There stood Yamato.
"Good morning, Sakura-chan. Get ready. Sai and I are waiting, and when you're done I want you to awaken Naruto and tell him to meet up with Sai and I around back."
Sakura nodded, then asked "Me too, right?"
"No, I want you to go and pick these things up from that shop down the street and head right back."
Sakura went to object as she took the grocery list, but changed her mind when she looked up at Yamato smiling expectantly.
"Yes, Captain."
Sakura dragged her feet on the way back from the store, scanning the list over and swerving through the crowd without so much as a single glance at her surroundings.
"What a ridiculous list! What good will any of this do us? Unless Captain Yamato's planning some really funky sculpture...3 sticks of butter, 1 carton of eggs, some coloring books, glue..."
Sakura grumbled and stuffed the list in her pocket.
"Eggs, coloring books, butter and glue?"
As she neared the inn they took up the night in, she realized the place seemed kind of empty. Funny...it was bustling a while ago...
Sakura hesitantly reached for the door and pulled it open, walking inside with extreme caution.
With every step the silence seemed to grow.
"Captain Yamato? Naruto?"
Sakura stepped into the room and set the groceries down, then took a step back on a creaky floorboard and whipped out her kunai with a gasp.
Nobody there.
"Nobody there..." she muttered.
Where had they gone?
Maybe Naruto and the others were still out back. They'd probably know what was going on if they were still there.
It hit Sakura with a hard thud of her heartbeat and she began running for the door. What if something happened to them?
In one swift movement she pulled the door back open and dashed through the hall, down the stairs, swerved the corner down another hall and out the back door.
The sunlight glared in her eyes and in the panic all she heard was a lot of cacophony.
When her vision cleared she saw just about everyone in the Inn standing before her with Naruto Yamato, and Sai in front of them.
"What's-"
"SURPRISE!" before Sakura could ask what was going on, the crowd erupted with multiple colors and confetti and inflated balloons.
'Surprise?' she thought.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAKURA!"
That's right...it was her birthday today. She was so focused on what they'd set out to do that she totally forgot it was her birthday.
She'd forgotten her own birthday!
Sakura began to laugh and cry. She laughed so hard, they almost didn't notice the tears.
"Thank you guys so much!"
Then Naruto stepped up and held out his hand toward her, "Come on, birthday girl. Eat some cake and relax. You deserve this."
Sakura smiled up at her obnoxious team mate and smiled.
"Sure." she replied. as she took his hand.
